My Artist Statement
I am a local artist and writer who lives in Wheatland, Wyoming, with my husband, Bob Wittman, a real estate broker. I am an active member of the Platte County Art Guild, and I recently served as a superintendent at the 2018 Platte County Fair. For the past several years, I have won numerous ribbons for my artworks at both the Platte County Fair and Wyoming State Fair.
I have four children and ten grandchildren. I am retired from my role as a college teacher; in the past, I taught freshman and sophomore classes in English, education, and psychology in several colleges. I taught English and education classes at the University of Wyoming in the early 1990’s, as well as English and education classes at Eastern Wyoming College (Wheatland Branch) for several years during the early 2000’s.
I enjoy developing my creative potential in the areas of art and literature. At present, I am working toward a bachelor’s degree in art at the University of Wyoming. I will graduate from Laramie County Community College in Spring of 2019 with an associate degree in art. I have also published several books: Smoky Mountain Legacy, Setting Sail: A Collection of Modern-Day Parables, Raina’s Vision Quest, and Kaleidoscopic Visions of an Ordinary Life.
My mediums include drawings (charcoal, pastel, pencil, ink), paintings (acrylic, oil, watercolor), and photographs (landscapes and portraits). I use varied techniques to achieve my artistic style, which is a mixture of impressionism and realism. I enjoy creating conceptual works, based on my unique perspectives of my life experiences.
My philosophy on art can be summed up as follows: “I try to capture ordinary, yet special moments in my life through my artworks to convey glimpses of God’s grace to my viewers. We live in a natural world of beauty and hope, if we only take the time to stop and enjoy life’s simple, yet profound pleasures."
